NEC to Start Reviewing Voter Registration List from Tomorrow

Phnom Penh: The National Election Committee, NEC, will start the process of reviewing the 2021 voter registration list from Tuesday 12 October. The review period will run until 30 November. The NEC says the review is aimed at ensuring that the voter list is complete, accurate and up-to-date. The review is conducted at the commune level, seven days a week.

During the review, every 15 days, the Commune Council will close the registration office to meet with the registration team to discuss past implementation and plan work to be done. The first time this will occur will be on 26 October, with the last being on 25 November.

The NEC is encouraging all Khmer citizens, aged 18 and older, who are not on the voter list in the commune in which they now live should come forward to apply to register to vote. To do so, they must meet in person with the voter registration team and present their Cambodian identity card to the head of the voter registration team.

If the address on their Khmer Nationality Identity Card is in the Commune where they have applied for registration, the voter registration team will follow the process for registration. If the address is different from the Commune where the person is applying for registration, they must bring a family book or residence book or a certificate of residence requesting registration. Proof of residence must be made in the Commune in line with the announcement of the Ministry of Interior, which requires a Cambodian identity card and a temporary residence permit (A9) and a witness who is a citizen who has the right to vote in that commune.

Every day, the voter registration team must send the computerized data to the Department of Voter Data Management and the Voter List for monitoring. Distribution of invitations to 7,916,745 registered voters was 89.64%. The distribution of invitations was completed on 11 October 2021, but people who have not yet received invitations can go to their commune hall.
